Which is the best carpet cleaner to purchase? This can definitely be a frustrating situation.
I’ve now purchased two in my time and have used several others, from industrial models to cheap home models. I never knew that it could be so darn difficult to find an affordable home unit that would function well over time.
I’m sorry to say that my first home unit was a Bissell and I don’t believe that it was the best carpet cleaner. I cannot remember the model number, but it was one of the higher end units when I purchased it about seven years ago. I had purchased it from a Sears warehouse clearance center and I don’t know if it was a faulty unit from the get go or just a bad model overall, it was continuously breaking down.
I was utterly frustrated by the unit. Basically, the unit would stop feeding the cleaning solution when cleaning. It would require a trip to the shop to be fixed. In the four years that we owned it, I must of had it repaired well over five or six times.
In the end, the repair center would no longer warranty the unit as parts were no longer available. At that time, the unit was scraped. I then put up without a carpet cleaner for close to three years and I sorrily missed it.

You don’t realize how ofter the best carpet cleaner can be super handy. Imagine at around two o’clock in the morning. My child decides to get sick and throws up all over the hallway carpet. Yes, kids don’t decide to vomit unless the hours are between midnight and five in the morning.
Anyhow, she proved that she could expel her body weight in fluids times two when she vomits. Yuck. I had to clean up that mess on my hands and knees. It was a very unpleasant job. Had a hard time trying to keep my stomach calm and I’m not one to sympathy puck. Anyhow, it was one time that a home carpet cleaner would have made this terrible job quick and easy to rectify.
But after having so much troubles with the previous carpet cleaner, I was hesitant to purchase another Bissell carpet cleaner. I looked around at other manufacturers and was totally displeased with their units. They were either very clumsy or not very robust to use.
In the end I chose another Bissell as it seemed to be the best carpet cleaner for me. The price was right and the functionality seemed right too.
Well, I’m pleased to say that the unit works pretty good. I ended up carpet cleaning like crazy with it, cleaning stairs and vehicle carpets as they were very dirty.
The unit is almost identical in functionality to the previous one, but it seems to be working pretty good. But as I said, time will tell.
My recommendation is that you get demonstrations of the units available in your area and then purchase the one that seems to fit you best. Some of the best pricing that I’ve seen has been on Amazon, so do consider them when purchasing.
